Phyl’s partnership with South Africa-based Leave No Girl Behind International involves training young people in key leadership principles globally. She also holds one of the only two U.S. appointments on the Board of Directors for the Leave No Girl Behind School of Leadership. Phyl is the 2022 recipient of the I Am Woman of Inspiration “Difference Maker” award and was named by the RiseHer Network as one of the “Top 100 Women to Know in 2023.”

Anthony Muhammad is an author and international thought leader. He currently serves as the CEO of New Frontier 21 Consulting, a company dedicated to providing cutting-edge professional development to schools all over the world. He served as a practitioner for nearly twenty years. Dr. Muhammad served as a middle school teacher, assistant principal, middle school principal, and high school principal. His tenure as a practitioner has earned him several awards as both a teacher and a principal.
Dr. Muhammad is recognized as one of the fields leading experts in the areas of school culture and Professional Learning Communities at Work (PLC). Dr. Muhammad was recognized by the Global Gurus organization as one of the 30 Most Influential Educational Thought Leaders in the world in 2021.
Dr. Muhammad is a best-selling author. He is the author of the books Revisiting Professional Learning Communities at Work, 2nd Edition (2021) Time for Change: The Four Essential Skills of a Transformational School Leader (2019); Transforming School Culture: How to Overcome Staff Division 2nd Edition (2017) Overcoming the Achievement Gap Trap: Liberating Mindsets to Effect Change (2015); The Will to Lead and the Skill to Teach; Transforming Schools at Every Level (2011). He has published 26 articles in education journals and publications in seven different countries.
Facilitator: Kenneth Ward, Executive Director of College Bound, Inc. in Washington, D.C.
As a Fulbright Memorial scholar in Japan and a seasoned D.C. educator and administrator for 15 years, Kenneth Ward has been instrumental in creating academic and personal enrichment programs for students, such as the Young Ambassadors program. Since its inception in 2000, this male-mentoring program has allowed him to take participants on life-changing international trips annually where they explore their historical and cultural roots; visiting schools, universities, local villages, and slave castles. This initiative gave birth to the College Bound International Study Tour that is a coed version of this program that fosters study abroad opportunities for College Bound student leaders.
He has participated in the International Teacher Exchange program where he studied best practices in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia and has also volunteered in Ethiopia. Mr. Ward holds a Bachelor’s degree in communications from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he matriculated on a Pogue Scholarship and a Master’s degree in education from Trinity. He was hired as the Executive Director of College Bound in 2009. During this full time tenure at College Bound, he has opened three workplace mentoring sites and implemented a Virtual Mentoring Program designed to support the program’s alumni to college degree completion. Under his leadership, College Bound has doubled the amount of scholarship dollars awarded and more than tripled the number of students served by College Bound.
Mr. Ward participated in the Nonprofit Management Executive Certificate Program at Georgetown and was bestowed the 2012 Harvey Elliott Beech Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of North Carolina for his outstanding personal achievements that reflect well upon him, his community and the university. Mr. Ward returns often to his hometown of Enfield, N.C. to create opportunities to educate and expose local youth to cultural and educational activities. He knows first-hand the power of education and works to erase the achievement gap. He serves on the Advisory Board at UNC for the Learning and Writing Center and is an active member of the Perry Community Center Services Center and Achievement Prep boards. Mr. Ward received the 2017 UNC Alumni Diversity Award. Most recently he was honored by MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership with the 2019 Excellence in Mentoring Awards in the Lifetime Achievement category.
